Investing Opportunity in Art 2025: Irene Carlos

Investing in art in 2025 can be a smart move for several reasons, especially given the current global economic, cultural, and technological trends.
Several factors contribute to the current appeal of art as an investment, including its potential as a hedge against inflation, strong market performance, the expansion of global wealth, and its enduring cultural and social value.

Introduction: IRENE CARLOS

With more than twenty solo exhibitions in Guatemala, Central America, and the United States, Irene Carlos has distinguished herself for her diverse artistic mediums. She began her career as a textile artist in the 1980s and gradually branched out into painting, photography, and sculpture.

She worked as an art director at the production company “Caminos del Asombro” in Guatemala for more than seven years. She also dedicated her time to food styling, producing commercials and documentaries for various advertising agencies. She also ran her own workshop teaching different artistic disciplines for children and adults for three years in Guatemala. She currently lives in Spain and dedicates herself to her artistic work.

Her works are included in the collections of West Trust Bank, Lloyds Bank, Citi Bank, Banco del Café, the Museo de Arte de República Dominicana, and Banco Promérica, as well as in private collections in the Americas, Europe, and South America.

Her vision

“Expressing that creative mental and emotional space in different media and capturing it through painting, through everything that can be tactile and visual, is what I call living and giving meaning to my existence. The resonance between my work and the viewer must be an organic process, from heart to heart. It can be abstraction or the use of symbols, perhaps a figure. This shouldn’t be a rational process. It’s simply an act of spiritual creation”

To be in contact with my creative mind, is to connect my heart, with the throbbing heart of the universe. When the observer and the observed becomes one, it’s when pure spontaneity takes place. That intuitive state, of pure creation, free of rational filters, is what I glimpse at times. Those treasured moments, lead me into my path without doubts, and gives me the strength to continue among colors, fibers, matter, towards the path for the absolute.”

“Possibly one of the most striking aspects of this multifaceted artist’s work, viewed as a whole, is the skill with which she has immersed herself in a wide variety of techniques. From working with fibers to painting, from painting to ceramics, from this to fiber with paint, to collage; from mixed media on paper to sculpture, from everything before photography.

The interesting thing about her work is, in my opinion, that whether it is painting, collage, tapestry, sculpture or photography, the hand – and the eye – of Irene Carlos is still visible. We could affirm then that she is a consistent artist. His long creative journey and exploration of his own ability denotes a kind of aesthetic coherence on the one hand, but also fidelity to his own way of expressing what he sees and feel”.

Like A DeparturePoint… When one begins to make a weave, the development ofthe fiber begins from a point. In similar form to a ball of yarn, a cocoon, the creations of Irene grow from an epicenter. Their works have an axis from which they develop and they increase. For that reason they are tied to life or rather they emulate that vital growth that goes from inside to outside. Centered in a convergence, these compositions are centripetal, because their parts join in organic forms, causing a full vision, which it is easy to enter into themselves and feel embraced like a maternal breast.

For that reason, we are caught and surrounded by them. We become part of a whirlpool that absorbs to us through its colors, textures and outlines. One does not theorize in front of this works, you sense them and enter in connection with something that has been ingested and given birth with the force and tenderness of life. The primitive character where they have been carried and the visual vocabulary with which they speak to us, take us to very elementary experiences; they connect to us with our vital and simultaneously spiritual center. Its impact is direct, as it is in the rhythms, sounds and elements of nature. Each one evokes the form into which the climate, geography, earth, water and wind are part of our life and our surroundings. Irene transmits the sense of the vital and primordial. Her artist vocabulary put us in front of the ancestral, she grants immediately with the fundamental and archaic.
